VETERINARY ASSISTANT
Are you passionate about animals and looking to kickstart your career in veterinary medicine? Olney-Sandy Spring Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Veterinary Assistant. No prior experience is required – we will provide the training you need to succeed!
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians in providing high-quality care to our animal patients
- Handle and restrain animals during examinations and procedures
- Perform basic medical procedures under supervision, such as phlebotomy and catheter placement
- Assist with dental cleanings and radiology procedures
- Prepare surgical suites and assist with surgical procedures
- Monitor anesthesia during surgeries
- Dispense medications from the pharmacy as directed by veterinarians
- Provide post-surgical monitoring and care to patients
- Educate clients on animal care and treatment plans
Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Reliable transportation and flexibility to work days, nights, and weekends as needed
- Strong communication skills and a passion for working with animals
Nice to Have (but not required)
- Prior experience in a veterinary setting
- Phlebotomy, catheter placement, dentistry, radiology, or anesthesia monitoring
- Familiarity with ultrasound guided cystocentesis
- Veterinary Assistant certification is a plus
