Pet Boarding

The personal attention our staff lavishes on each dog or cat that boards with us sets Olney-Sandy Spring Veterinary Hospital’s boarding services apart from the rest. Our goal is to minimize stress for each of our pet guests while they are away from home. OSSVH provides a purpose-built boarding facility for your dogs and cats. The separate dog and cat boarding areas are designed to provide our guests with well-lighted, clean, and comfortable compartments. We understand that accommodations away from home can create stress and we strive to minimize that stress.

A Comfortable Stay

Our staff is carefully trained to monitor your pet’s attitude, appetite, and elimination functions and alert the veterinarians of any abnormalities. We feed our guests according to your individual instructions and food preference. Required medications can be administered daily. Any illness that occurs during your pet’s stay here will be treated as necessary; we will make every effort to reach you at your emergency contact number if a serious illness develops.

Dogs

Our dog compartments are constructed with transparent backs that face large areas of glass-block to allow for more light. Dogs are leash walked (four times daily except on Sundays and holidays

Cats

Our cat boarding facility is separate from the dog facility. Most of our cat compartments have transparent backs which face large windows allowing the cats to view the outdoors and feel the sunshine.

Additional Boarding Policies

Pets may be admitted or discharged from boarding between the hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday, through Friday; and 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Saturday. We are closed to admission or discharge on Sundays. Over holidays and busy times, we require a deposit for boarding reservations and we encourage early reservations. Your deposit will be applied to the final boarding bill and is refundable if you cancel your reservation 72 hours in advance of the scheduled arrival.

Dogs

Our dog compartments are constructed with transparent backs that face large areas of glass-block to allow for more light. Dogs are leash walked (four times daily except on Sundays and holidays when they are walked three times daily) in a wooded area set aside for exercise and play.
Dogs from the same family may be housed in adjacent, interconnecting compartments, if desired. However, at mealtime, we will separate the pets in order to more efficiently observe each dog’s appetite.
Owners are encouraged to bring their pet’s own food or we will feed our diet of Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low fat. We will feed our guests once or twice daily, depending on the owner’s instructions.
To help ensure your dog’s health, we require that all dogs boarding with us be current on the following vaccinations:
Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza & Parvovirus (DHPP, DHLPP); current protective distemper/parvovirus vaccination titer, appropriate vaccination or written veterinary exemption
Rabies (date of expiration from certificate needed)
Bordetella (Kennel Cough) (within 12 months)
Fecal sample with a negative result (within 12 months)

All vaccinations must be given by a veterinarian. Written proof of vaccination is preferred. If you are unable to provide written verification, we will try to contact your veterinarian. If we are unable to verify current vaccinations, we will perform a physical examination and administer any needed vaccinations to your dog at your expense.

In order to keep your pet from contracting fleas and ticks while boarding with us, we will administer a topical flea and tick adulticide called K-9 Advantix II upon admission (unless applied at home-name of product and date applied required). This will be required on all dogs year-round. This product kills fleas and ticks for up to one month after application.

Our staff is trained to administer any medications that your pet needs (such as eye ointments, ear drops, or oral medications). Owner provided medications will be administered per instructions for a minimal additional daily fee. All medications accompanying your pet must be in their original dispensed containers.
We prefer to board our guests with more complex medical problems, such as diabetes or heart failure, in the veterinary hospital side of our establishment. This way, they will be observed more frequently by our professional staff. There is an additional daily fee for this more intense care. Owners of geriatric dogs may also choose our Veterinary Supervised Care option for their pet.

Cats

Our cat boarding facility is separate from the dog facility. Most of our cat compartments have transparent backs which face large windows allowing the cats to view the outdoors and feel the sunshine. Additionally, our feline guests are rotated to a “greenhouse” area for a portion of each day for exercise and play.
Cats from the same family may, at the owner’s request, be housed in interconnecting compartments arranged in a horizontal or vertical fashion. For a single cat, arrangements can be made to expand the single compartment into a double compartment for an additional fee.
Our standard diet is ProPlan Adult dry or Friskies, 9-Lives or Fancy Feast canned formulas. We encourage owners to bring their cats’ own food.
To help ensure your cat’s health, we require that all cats boarding with us be current on the following vaccinations:
- Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, & Calicivirus (FVRCP, RCP within 12 months, a current 3 year vaccination or written veterinary exemption)
- Rabies (date of expiration from certificate needed)
- Fecal sample with a negative result (within 12 months)

All vaccinations must be given by a veterinarian. Written proof of vaccination is preferred. If you are unable to provide written verification, we will try to contact your veterinarian. If we are unable to verify current vaccinations, we will perform a physical examination and administer any needed vaccinations to your cat at your expense.
