Poisonous Plants and Your Pets
Listed below are plants that are known to be poisonous and should be avoided if you own dogs or cats. In some cases,
just parts of the plant are poisonous (leaves, seeds, berries, etc.), but, in general, this list rules out the entire plant.
Symptoms of poisoning may include salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty in breathing, trembling, convulsions, or
paralysis. If you suspect that your pet has ingested a poisonous plant, contact your veterinarian immediately. If possible, take the plant with you to the veterinarian’s office for identification. If you cannot reach your veterinarian you can call the University of Illinois National Animal Poison Control Center, 24-hours a day, at 1-800-548-2423. There is a fee of $60, with no charge for their follow-up calls or consultations with your veterinarian.
